Police drop charges against Pakistan’s Haider Ali in UK rape case

Manchester, 4 September 2025:

Pakistan cricketer Haider Ali will face no charges after Greater Manchester Police ended an investigation into an allegation of rape made against him last month, ESPNcricinfo reported Thursday.

Haider, 24, had been arrested during a match in Beckenham on Aug. 3 while touring the UK with Pakistan Shaheens, a Pakistan A side. GMP said the alleged offense took place in Manchester on July 23. He was released on bail at the time.

“We always take allegations of this nature very seriously and will assess each incident thoroughly,” a GMP spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo. “Following a comprehensive review of all available evidence, the investigation has been closed at this time. Should any further information come to light, we would review the material and case again appropriately.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that all charges against Haider had been dropped. The board has not yet decided whether it will take disciplinary action, instead waiting until Haider’s return to Pakistan before making a determination.

Haider has played two ODIs and 35 T20Is for Pakistan. He rose to prominence in the Pakistan Super League with Peshawar Zalmi in 2020 and made his international debut later that year in Manchester, scoring 54 off 33 balls in a T20I win over England.
