Cox called up to England squad for Ireland T20Is

London, 3 September 2025:

Jordan Cox has been added to England’s squad for this month’s three-match T20 series in Ireland after impressing in The Hundred.

Cox, 24, was the tournament’s top run-scorer with 367 runs and was named Most Valuable Player as Oval Invincibles secured their third straight title.

Initially left out of the white-ball squads for South Africa and Ireland, Cox will now link up with a largely second-string group in Dublin. Most of England’s multi-format players have been rested ahead of this winter’s Ashes.

The squad will be captained by 21-year-old Jacob Bethell, who is set to become England’s youngest men’s international skipper. Head coach Brendon McCullum will also sit out the series, with assistant Marcus Trescothick taking charge.

Cox has played three ODIs and two T20s, both in 2024, but his progress has been hampered by injuries. He broke his thumb during last winter’s Test tour of New Zealand and missed the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May with a side injury.

England’s matches against Ireland are scheduled for Sept. 17, 19 and 21 in Dublin.

England squad:

Jacob Bethell (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jos Buttler (wk), Jordan Cox, Liam Dawson, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt (wk), Luke Wood.
