New Delhi, 4 September 2025:
Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, ending a career that spanned more than two decades.
Mishra, 42, played his last international match in 2017 but remained active in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League, most recently featuring for Lucknow Super Giants in 2024.
He represented India in 22 Tests, 36 one-day internationals and 10 Twenty20s, taking 156 wickets. On his Test debut in 2008 at Mohali, Mishra claimed a five-wicket haul against Australia.
In the IPL, he became one of the tournament’s most reliable spinners, finishing with 174 wickets in 162 matches. He is the only bowler with three IPL hat tricks, achieved with Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
Mishra cited injuries and a desire to make way for the next generation in his retirement announcement.
“Today, after 25 years, I announce my retirement from cricket, a game that has been my first love, my teacher and my greatest source of joy,” he said. “This journey has been filled with countless emotions, moments of pride, hardship, learning and love. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, my coaches, support staff, colleagues and most importantly the fans, whose faith and support gave me strength at every step.”
