Lahore, 14 October 2025:
Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Noman Ali once again proved his worth in home conditions, taking six wickets in South Africa’s first innings to hand the hosts a crucial 109-run lead on the third day of the first Test at Gaddafi Stadium. The 39-year-old’s figures marked his ninth five-wicket haul in Test cricket — the most by a Pakistan left-arm spinner.
Playing his 20th Test, Noman’s latest performance lifted his career tally to 89 wickets since making his debut against South Africa in Karachi in 2021. He surpassed former spinner Iqbal Qasim’s record of eight five-wicket hauls, achieved over 86 innings, reaching the milestone in just 37 innings.
On a pitch offering turn and bounce, Noman exploited conditions to perfection, mixing flight, drift and accuracy to dismantle the South African batting lineup. His spell not only curtailed the visitors’ resistance but also ensured Pakistan maintained control of the contest.
Known for his persistence and ability to extract sharp turn, Noman’s consistency has been a cornerstone of Pakistan’s bowling attack in the subcontinent. His success reflects both experience and adaptability — qualities that have made him a vital weapon in Pakistan’s spin arsenal.
While South Africa struggled to negotiate Pakistan’s spin challenge, Noman’s brilliance stood out once again, underlining his reputation as one of the most effective left-arm spinners in the country’s modern Test history.
