Test cricket returns to Darwin after 22 years with community fan event

Darwin, 30 July 2026:

Darwin will welcome the Australian Men’s Test team for the first time in 22 years with a community fan event ahead of the historic NRMA Insurance Test match against Bangladesh.

Cricket Australia, in partnership with Westpac and NT Cricket, will host the free event at the Darwin Waterfront on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (local time), giving fans the opportunity to meet the entire Australian Test squad before the Top End hosts the opening match of the 2026-27 Australian Summer of Cricket.

Fans will be able to collect autographs, take photos with players, enjoy cricket activities and hear members of the Australian team during an on-stage question-and-answer session.

NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey said Darwin was proud to host the opening Test of the Australian summer.

“We are so proud to open the 2026-27 Australian Summer of Cricket right here in the Top End,” Dovey said.

“Last year’s Westpac Community Event at Darwin Waterfront brought together thousands of local and interstate cricket fans, and we’re delighted to once again give our cricket-loving community the opportunity to meet a generational Australian Test team.”

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said the return of Test cricket to Darwin marked a significant occasion for the sport.

“The return of Test cricket to Darwin after 22 years is a significant moment for Australian cricket, and we’re very pleased fans in the Northern Territory will have the opportunity to celebrate it alongside the players,” Greenberg said.

“We want to bring our national teams to communities across Australia, and this event gives fans the chance to share in the excitement ahead of another Summer of Cricket.”

Fans are encouraged to register in advance for the event. Tickets for the Australia-Bangladesh NRMA Insurance Test at Marrara Stadium are available through Cricket Australia.
