London, August 31 2025:
Northern Superchargers won The Hundred women’s competition for the first time on Saturday, beating defending champions Southern Brave by seven wickets in the final at Lord’s.
Superchargers restricted the previously unbeaten Brave to 115 for 6 and chased down the target with 12 balls to spare. Annabel Sutherland (28 not out) and Nicola Carey (35 not out) guided the team home with an unbroken 60-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Kate Cross struck twice in successive deliveries during the powerplay, dismissing Maia Bouchier and Laura Wolvaardt, to put Brave on the back foot early. Cross and Sutherland both finished with 2-23. Freya Kemp top-scored for Brave with 26 off 17 balls.
In reply, Davina Perrin fell for 17 after her match-winning knock in the Eliminator, but Phoebe Litchfield injected momentum with 26 off 13 balls, including three fours and a six. Sutherland and Carey then saw the chase through comfortably, with Sutherland striking a straight six to seal the win.
Brave had entered the final as favourites after winning all eight of their group matches but were undone by disciplined Superchargers bowling. Nearly half of the deliveries bowled by the Superchargers were on target to hit the stumps, their highest percentage in the tournament.
The victory avenged last year’s final defeat to Brave and delivered a maiden title for the Superchargers, whose men’s team has yet to reach the final.
“It doesn’t feel real, I’ve already lost my voice,” Cross told the BBC.
Carey, named Match Hero, added: “I feel a bit embarrassed because our bowlers set this up. This squad thoroughly deserves it.”
Brave captain Georgia Adams said: “Any loss in a final is tough. We’ve had a brilliant campaign, but they outplayed us.”
