That is from this game. A good start by the hosts but West Indies will look to bounce back quickly. Join us back for the second ODI on 21st October at 7.30 am GMT. Join us earlier for the build up. Till then, cheers!
The captain of Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, says they believe in themselves and feel the boys played really well today. Shares that they have been playing fewer ODI series as compared to the T20s and feels that could be a big reason why they aren't able to bat 50 overs. Mentions that Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tawhid Hridoy batted really well in the middle, and the debutant Mahidul Islam Ankon showed great composure in this situation. Reckons they want to play positively and focus on putting runs on the board and with consistency, they can win more matches.
Shai Hope, the captain of West Indies says it was challenging to bat in these conditions but they'll learn from this game and come back stronger. Tells the openers set the tone and laid a good foundation but feels it is a good learning for them that they shouldn't lose the momentum. Hopes to bounce back in the next game in two days.
Rishad Hossain wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD.
...Presentation..
It was a horrendous performance from the West Indies' point of view. The visitors impressed, restricting Bangladesh to 207. Khary Pierre's left-arm spin was outstanding, conceding just 19 runs while picking a wicket. It was an overall performance but was undone by the batters who failed to chase down what looked like an under-par score. The openers set the tone and laid the foundation but all went downhill once Rishad Hossain was introduced. He troubled the Windies and single-handedly broke the back of the visitors.
Bangladesh will be happy with how things have panned out but they were sweating at the innings break, having ended with an under-par score. However, they breathed a sigh of relief as the spinners took control, and wickets began to fall. Rishad Hossain enjoyed a productive spell, finishing with a six-fer, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir Islam claimed one wicket each. Mustafizur Rahman wrapped up the tail, ending with two wickets, securing Bangladesh's hard-fought win.
Bangladesh have secured a thrilling victory, kicking off their home series on a high note. Coming off the back of a tough ODI series loss to Afghanistan, the team faced immense pressure to bounce back. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and his teammates have delivered a strong performance, pleasing their fans and setting a positive tone for the series.
