That is all from this game. Afghanistan lead the 3-match ODI series but Bangladesh will look to bounce back with a much better performance. Join us on the 11th of October at 12 pm GMT for the coverage. You can join us earlier for the build up as well. Cheers for now!
Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, highlighting the good work by the bowlers, particularly in the middle overs. He praised opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran for their starts, though he expressed disappointment with Rahmat's dismissal, feeling the senior player could have been more composed. Shahidi also mentioned his own hard work on fitness and fielding, looking forward to the upcoming matches.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz attributed his team's struggles to the loss of many wickets in the first 15 overs, citing the challenging conditions as the ball was turning a bit. He praised Tawhid Hridoy for handling the situation well. Miraz acknowledged the lack of partnerships in the end, but remains optimistic about the series, expressing confidence in his team's ability to bounce back in the next game.
Azmatullah Omarzai wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD for his all-round performance. He says it was a tough wicket to bat on, so he was looking for balls in his area to hit the boundaries.
...Presentation...
However, once they fell right after their consecutive fifties, it came down to the skipper to play the finisher's role. While he anchored the innings, Azmatullah Omarzai went bang-bang, scoring boundaries for fun and making things easier for the captain. He scored a quick-fire 40 to put this game to bed. A strong performance from Afghanistan and a much-needed one for their confidence.
Tawhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz's partnership was the highlight from the first innings but once Afghanistan got rid of the duo, it was a procession as Rashid Khan and AM Ghazanfar cleaned up the lower-middle order quickly. In the chase, Afghanistan were cautious with the start despite chasing an under-par score. Ibrahim Zadran looked good for his 23 but failed to convert into a big one. Sediqullah Atal failed to contribute much but it was Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah's partnership that sealed the deal. The duo soaked in a lot of pressure, ran hard between the wickets and got the deficit under 100.
A comfortable victory for Afghanistan, and they start the ODI series on a good note. A much needed win after the thumping they witness in the T20Is. Afghanistan stepped up today in all departments. However, the win was set up by their bowlers who were exceptional today. Bangladesh chose to bat first but under tough conditions were made to buy every run. Azmatullah Omarzai impressed yet again in this tour as his opening spell put Bangladesh under tremendous pressure. Although they didn't lost many wickets in the initial phase, runs were hard to come by and once the Afghans introduced spinners, it got even tougher.
