Bangladesh suffer heavy defeat against CA XI in Darwin tour match

Darwin, 8 August 2026:

Bangladesh endured a difficult start to their tour of Australia as Cricket Australia XI completed a commanding innings-and-38-run victory in the three-day tour match at Marrara Oval in Darwin.

After electing to bat, Bangladesh were bowled out for 263 in their first innings, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz providing the lone major resistance with an unbeaten 109 off 141 balls. His counterattacking innings, featuring 11 fours and four sixes, helped Bangladesh recover after they had slipped to 110-6.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 37 and Shadman Islam added 31, but the top order struggled against offspinner Corey Rocchiccioli, who claimed 6-83 from 24 overs.

Cricket Australia XI then overcame a shaky start to post 355 and secure a 92-run first-innings lead.

The hosts were reduced to 1-2 after Sam Konstas and Campbell Kellaway fell cheaply, but Teague Wyllie led the recovery with an impressive 130 from 177 balls. He struck 16 fours and shared a crucial partnership with wicket-keeper Jake Doran, who made 76.

Kurtis Patterson contributed 53 and Jack Clayton scored 48 as CA XI took firm control of the contest. Hasan Mahmud was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, finishing with 4-42, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy took two wickets each.

Bangladesh’s hopes of gaining useful batting practice in their second innings quickly disappeared as Campbell Thompson produced a devastating spell.

The seamer ripped through the lineup to finish with 8-25 from 11 overs as Bangladesh collapsed to 54 all out in just 22 overs. Tanzid Hasan’s 22 was the only score above single figures.

Thompson dismissed Shadman, Mominul Haque, Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim before removing Shanto, Taskin and Ebadot Hossain as Bangladesh lost their final six wickets for 18 runs.

Rocchiccioli claimed the remaining two wickets to complete an emphatic victory for CA XI ahead of Bangladesh’s Test series against Australia.
