Bangladesh wary of Netherlands challenge in T20 series

Dhaka, 30 August 2025:

Bangladesh coach Phil Simmons says his team will look to build on its series win in Sri Lanka when it takes on the Netherlands in three Twenty20 internationals starting Saturday.

“We want to continue the standards we set in Sri Lanka,” Simmons said Friday. “You can’t underrate anyone in world cricket now. Everyone has a chance to win, so we have to focus on how we play and keep improving.”

Bangladesh clinched the Sri Lanka series 2-1 earlier this month. Simmons dismissed the idea of using the Netherlands games as Asia Cup preparation, stressing that “every international series is an ideal situation because you must maintain a certain standard.”

Netherlands coach Ryan Cook, a former Bangladesh staff member, welcomed the challenge. “Bangladesh have played some good cricket recently, but they’ve also been vulnerable,” Cook said. “We’re confident we can compete and win games here.”

The two teams meet in a three-match T20 series before Bangladesh turns attention to the Asia Cup.
