Renshaw, Owen make ODI debuts as Australia take on India in Perth

Perth, 19 October 2025:

Australia handed one-day international debuts to Matt Renshaw and Mitchell Owen in the opening ODI against India at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

For Renshaw, nine years after making his Test debut against South Africa in 2016, is making his ODI debut. The left-handed top-order batter, who represents Queensland, has played 14 Tests and owns a career-best 184 against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017, his only Test century.

The 29-year-old has been in consistent form on the domestic circuit, having struck a first-class hundred for Queensland against Tasmania earlier this month. In List-A cricket, Renshaw has featured in 77 matches, amassing 2,794 runs at an average of 39.35, which includes seven centuries and 17 half-centuries.

For 24-year-old Mitchell Owen, the call-up capped a strong year of all-round performances for Tasmania. The right-handed batter and medium pacer has already represented Australia in 10 T20 internationals. In List-A cricket, he has one century and one fifty to his name and remains a dynamic option with both bat and ball.

Owen’s last appearance in domestic one-day cricket came for Tasmania against Victoria in Brisbane on September 19, when he produced an impressive all-round performance, scoring 53 runs and claiming 4 for 57.

The pair’s inclusion highlights Australia’s focus on building depth ahead of ICC World Cup in 2027, as selectors continue to reward form from the domestic circuit.
