New Delhi, 14 September 2025:
Several prominent former cricketers, including Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh, will represent their state associations at the upcoming Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Annual General Meeting, scheduled for Sept. 28.
According to Cricbuzz, Harbhajan will attend as the Punjab Cricket Association’s representative, fueling speculation about his possible ambitions for a top post in the BCCI. While the former India offspinner has not disclosed his plans, his nomination is believed to be linked to his close ties with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
“It is unlikely the matter ends just with his friendship with the Punjab chief minister,” Cricbuzz noted, suggesting Harbhajan’s move could have larger implications in BCCI politics.
Ganguly, the former India captain and ex-BCCI president, will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal. Other state nominees with playing experience include Jaydev Shah (Saurashtra), Raghuram Bhatt (Karnataka) and Mithun Manhas (Jammu & Kashmir).
The Delhi & District Cricket Association has nominated Rohan Jaitley, son of the late Arun Jaitley, a former BCCI treasurer and influential Delhi cricket figure. Former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary will represent Haryana.
The AGM will also serve as the election forum for key posts — president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer. With current president Roger Binny ineligible due to the BCCI’s age cap of 70, speculation is growing about who will step into the role. Secretary Devajit Saikia (Assam), treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia (Chhattisgarh) and joint secretary Rohan Dessa (Goa) are expected to retain their positions.
Other notable names on the electoral roll include Mahanaaryaman Rao Scindia (Madhya Pradesh), Sanjay Naik (Mumbai), Rohit Pawar (Maharashtra), Anil Patel (Gujarat) and P. Damodaran (Pondicherry).
BCCI electoral officer A.K. Joti confirmed the list of representatives in his communication to state associations. “The names have been listed after checking the completeness of the records as specified in paragraph 3 of the Electoral Officer’s Notice of Election Schedule,” Joti said.
The election will decide the next leadership group of Indian cricket’s most powerful body, with attention focused on Harbhajan’s unexpected presence among the delegates.
