Pakistan to host South Africa, Sri Lanka and maiden T20I tri-series in busy home season

Lahore, 8 September 2025:

Pakistan will stage a packed international season from Oct. 12 to Nov. 29, with South Africa, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan all confirmed for tours, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced Monday.

The home schedule begins with two ICC World Test Championship matches against defending champions South Africa in Lahore and Rawalpindi. The Tests will be followed by three T20 internationals and three one-day internationals, including the return of international cricket to Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium for the first time in 17 years.

Sri Lanka will then play three ODIs in Rawalpindi, marking their first bilateral 50-over series in Pakistan since 2019. They will also join Pakistan and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series, the first of its kind in the country, running from Nov. 17-29.

PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed Syed said the home season reflects both Pakistan’s hosting capacity and the growing appetite for international cricket in the country.

“We are looking forward to welcoming South Africa for the opening series of our ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign,” Syed said. “Starting the new cycle against the reigning Test champions will provide quality cricket for our players and fans. The return of ODI cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years is a special moment. Iqbal Stadium holds a proud place in our cricketing history and we are excited to bring international cricket back to this part of the country.”

On the Sri Lanka and Afghanistan fixtures, Syed added:

“We look forward to hosting Sri Lanka and Afghanistan for Pakistan’s maiden T20I tri-series. This event will not only offer excellent preparation for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, but also present fans with exciting cricket across two historic venues. Earlier this year, the PCB successfully delivered the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, underlining our readiness to stage back-to-back global and bilateral events.”
