Muthusamy’s six-for leads South Africa fightback in Lahore

Lahore, 13 October 2025:

Left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy claimed his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket to help South Africa fight back against Pakistan on the second day of the first Test at Gaddafi Stadium on Monday.

The 31-year-old finished with career-best figures of six for 117 as Pakistan were bowled out for 378 before lunch, after resuming the day on 313 for five. His performance turned the tide in South Africa’s favor after the hosts appeared set for a much bigger total.

Muthusamy, who made his Test debut against India in 2019, took his first five-wicket haul against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2024. His accuracy and variation troubled Pakistan’s middle and lower order, as he removed key batters to stall their progress in the morning session.

The left-armer’s control on a surface offering turn and bounce ensured South Africa struck early on day two.

Muthusamy’s six-for is now his best performance in Test cricket, surpassing his previous figures from Bulawayo. His spell not only brought South Africa back into the contest but also highlighted his growing importance in the team’s spin attack.

Pakistan, who dominated much of the opening day, lost their last five wickets for 65 runs as Muthusamy led the visitors’ spirited response. South Africa will now look to build on the momentum as they begin their first innings in the ongoing World Test Championship fixture.
