Taylor back as Zimbabwe name squad for Sri Lanka ODIs

Harare, 25 August 2025:

Brendan Taylor has been recalled to Zimbabwe’s one-day squad for the first time since 2021 after completing a ban for breaching cricket’s anti-corruption code.

The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who returned to international cricket in the recent Test series against New Zealand, is part of a 16-man squad led by Craig Ervine for two ODIs against Sri Lanka in Harare on Aug. 29 and 31. The teams will also play three Twenty20s in early September.

Taylor’s comeback comes as Zimbabwe looks to arrest a run of poor results in both Tests and T20s. Convener of selectors David Mutendera said Taylor’s “experience and quality” would be vital, while head coach Justin Sammons urged his side to quickly adapt from red-ball to limited-overs cricket.

Uncapped seamer Ernest Masuku joins the squad alongside Brad Evans, Clive Madande and Tony Munyonga.

Squad: Craig Ervine (captain), Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Ben Curran, Brad Evans, Trevor Gwandu, Wessly Madhevere, Clive Madande, Ernest Masuku, Tony Munyonga, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Sikandar Raza, Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams.
