Taylor, Williams return to Zimbabwe squad for Sri Lanka T20Is

Harare, 2 September 2025:

Former captain Brendan Taylor has been recalled to Zimbabwe’s T20I squad for the first time in more than three years, while veteran all-rounder Sean Williams also returns for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

Taylor, 38, completed a three-and-a-half-year ban in August for failing to report an approach from alleged corruptors. He has since featured in Zimbabwe’s Test series against New Zealand and last month’s ODIs against Sri Lanka. His last T20 international appearance came in April 2021 against Pakistan.

Williams, 37, last played a T20I in May 2024. His comeback comes ahead of the Africa regional qualifiers later this month, where Zimbabwe will compete for one of two available spots at the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Zimbabwe failed to qualify for this year’s T20 World Cup after losses to Namibia and Uganda in regional qualifying.

Also recalled to the 16-man squad are fast bowler Brad Evans and top-order batter Tadiwanashe Marumani. Newman Nyamhuri, Wessly Madhevere, Vincent Masekesa and Tafadzwa Tsiga were omitted after featuring in July’s tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand.

Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have met in only six T20Is, most recently in January. Sri Lanka won that three-match series 2-1.
