Trott says communication issues with ACB resolved ahead of Zimbabwe T20Is

Harare, 29 October 2025:

Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott said any miscommunication between him and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has been resolved following recent tension over team selection and communication lapses.

Trott had earlier criticised the ACB for excluding him from the squad selection process and failing to maintain proper communication with top management and selectors. But speaking to reporters ahead of Afghanistan’s three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, Trott said the matter has been settled.

“We had a good discussion, the ACB, myself and all stakeholders and have come to an agreement about the way forward,” Trott said. “Any miscommunication or misunderstanding has been sorted out. Communication is now in place and we’re working together to prepare for a strong Zimbabwe side and the T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.”

The former England batter said the exchange had been constructive for both sides. “Sometimes these discussions are healthy because they help identify where communication can improve,” Trott said. “The last few days have been brilliant in that regard, and I’ve really enjoyed the dialogue.”

ACB officials have indicated they want to retain Trott beyond next year’s T20 World Cup. Trott, however, said his focus remains on the immediate future.

“There have been some good discussions in recent days,” he said. “I’ve signed a contract through the 2026 World Cup and I’m excited about the next few months. We were disappointed with our Asia Cup performance, but the team has trained well and we’re eager to build momentum heading into the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.”

Afghanistan will face Zimbabwe in T20Is on October 29, 31 and November 3 in Harare after losing the one-off Test earlier in the tour.
