Sourav Ganguly returns as CAB president

Kolkata, 14 September 2025:

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to return as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal after filing his nomination unopposed on Sunday.

The CAB will hold its annual general meeting on Sept. 22, but with no other contenders, Ganguly’s election is assured. He succeeds his elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly, who has held the post since 2019. Sourav previously led the association from 2015 to 2019.

“Don’t assume anything,” Ganguly told reporters when asked about the possibility of reclaiming the Board of Control for Cricket in India presidency. “At CAB, there is no opposition. Everyone is a part of this association. We will all work together to take Bengal cricket ahead.”

The 52-year-old has been nominated as CAB’s representative for the BCCI annual general meeting later this month, fueling speculation about a potential return to his former role as BCCI chief. Ganguly served as BCCI president from 2019 to 2022 before being succeeded by Roger Binny. Nominations for the BCCI post open Sept. 20.

Thanking members for their support, Ganguly said he will focus on upcoming events at Eden Gardens, including India’s home Test against South Africa, the T20 World Cup, and the Bengal Pro T20 League.

“I will try and do my best,” he said.

The unopposed CAB panel also includes Nitish Ranjan Dutta (vice president), Bablu Koley (secretary), Madan Mohan Ghosh (joint secretary) and Sanjay Das (treasurer). Ganguly praised his team, saying their experience would be “immensely helpful” in guiding Bengal cricket forward.
