New Delhi, 21 September 2025:
Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has filed his nomination for the presidency of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and is expected to be elected unopposed, according to Cricbuzz.
Sunday was the final day for filing nominations for the Sept. 28 election and Annual General Meeting. Manhas, 45, played 157 first-class matches between 1998 and 2016 and later served as an administrator with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. He was nominated for the presidency by the JKCA.
Raghuram Bhatt, a former India Test spinner from Bengaluru, was also in contention until the last minute but settled for the treasurer’s role. “I will do my best for Indian cricket and the BCCI in whatever way I can,” Bhatt told Cricbuzz after submitting his nomination.
Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Bhatia filed for the secretary and joint secretary posts. Bhatia replaced Rohan Dessai, who lost out after his faction was defeated in Goa Cricket Association elections.
Meanwhile, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal’s position was briefly uncertain due to questions over the BCCI’s cooling-off rules. Legal advice later cleared him to continue, though he had not filed his papers at the time of reporting.
Manhas’ emergence surprised many, given the speculation around higher-profile names such as Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh. His cricketing background helped secure support, vice president Rajeev Shukla told reporters.
The nominations followed a high-powered meeting at a Union minister’s residence Saturday night, attended by senior BCCI figures including Shukla, Dhumal, Saikia, and other influential officials such as former secretary Niranjan Shah, Tamil Nadu’s Kasi Viswanathan, and Brijesh Patel of Karnataka.
Ganguly was also in Delhi during the weekend, but Cricbuzz reported there was no indication he attended the meeting.
