Inglis ruled out of first India ODI; Philippe earns recall as Zampa misses for family reasons

Perth, 14 October 2025:

Wicket-keeper Josh Inglis has been ruled out of Australia’s opening one-day international against India on Sunday as he continues to recover from a right calf injury, paving the way for Josh Philippe’s return to the national side.

Inglis has not played since straining his calf during a Western Australia training session on Sept. 19, which also forced him to miss Australia’s recent T20 tour of New Zealand. Cricket Australia said the 30-year-old remains hopeful of returning for the third ODI in Sydney on Oct. 25.

With Alex Carey released from the squad to feature in South Australia’s Sheffield Shield match against Queensland as part of his Ashes preparation, New South Wales wicketkeeper Philippe has been added to the squad and is set to take the gloves in Perth.

The 28-year-old last played an ODI in 2021 during Australia’s tour of the West Indies. Philippe impressed on Australia A’s tour of India last month, scoring 123 not out and 50, and struck 85 against Sri Lanka A earlier in the year.

Carey, who missed South Australia’s opening Shield match to cover for Inglis in the T20 side, will rejoin the ODI squad in Adelaide ahead of the second match on Oct. 23.

Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann returns to the ODI setup in place of Adam Zampa, who will miss the series opener for family reasons. Kuhnemann, who claimed 2-51 for Tasmania in a one-dayer last week, last played a 50-over international in 2022.

Zampa is expected to rejoin the squad in Adelaide before the second ODI. Ticket sales remain strong, with fewer than 5,000 seats left for the Adelaide Oval match and the Sydney ODI already sold out.
