Ashwin confirms full availability for Sydney Thunder’s BBL|15 campaign

Sydney, 10 October 2025:

Indian great Ravichandran Ashwin has confirmed he will be available for the entire KFC BBL|15 season with the Sydney Thunder, including the Finals series.

Ashwin had initially signed on for the January portion of the tournament, but his extended commitment now covers all Thunder matches, including home games at ENGIE Stadium and both Corroboree Group Manuka Oval fixtures.

The veteran off-spinner will become the first capped Indian male player to represent a Big Bash League club when the Thunder face the Hobart Hurricanes on Dec. 16 — a rematch of last season’s BBL|14 Final. He is set to make his home debut four days later in the Sydney Smash on Dec. 20.

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland said Ashwin’s decision to play the full season was a major boost for the club.

“Ashwin’s decision to play the full BBL|15 season with Sydney Thunder is another exciting moment for our club, members and fans leading into a huge summer of Big Bash,” Copeland said.

“From the outset, we put an offer to Ashwin to bring him to Western Sydney for the entire season. After the initial signing, conversations progressed quickly and it was a no-brainer to have him for the whole tournament.

“This decision shows Ashwin’s commitment to our club and what we’re trying to build. We’re thrilled to be welcoming an icon of the game — a leader and world-class player on the field, and someone who will inspire a new generation of Thunder fans.”
