Lahore, 31 October 2025:
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has become one of Pakistan’s most recognisable cricketing fortresses in the T20I era, hosting 26 international matches since 2015. With 16 victories and 10 defeats, Pakistan have built a strong home record at the iconic venue, where passionate crowds, high-scoring thrillers and moments of history have defined a decade of international cricket’s revival in the country.
A Decade of Revival and Dominance
Since international cricket returned to Pakistan in May 2015 with Zimbabwe’s landmark tour, Gaddafi Stadium has been the heartbeat of Pakistan’s T20I resurgence. Pakistan marked that return with back-to-back wins over Zimbabwe, signaling the end of years of isolation and the beginning of a new era for cricket at home.
Over the years, Lahore has hosted visiting teams from Zimbabwe, World XI, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia, England, New Zealand and Bangladesh, each adding a new chapter to the stadium’s evolving legacy.
Bangladesh: Pakistan’s Favorite Opponents
No team has struggled more in Lahore than Bangladesh. Pakistan boast a perfect record of six wins from six matches against them at Gaddafi Stadium, including their most recent 3-0 sweep in May/June 2025, where victories by 37, 57 and seven wickets reaffirmed their home dominance.
England and Sri Lanka: Spoilers in Pakistan’s Fortress
While Lahore has mostly brought joy to Pakistan fans, it has also witnessed a few humbling nights. England and Sri Lanka are the only teams to have series wins in Lahore.
Sri Lanka’s 2019 tour remains one of the most surprising outcomes in Pakistan’s T20I history. A young Sri Lankan side stunned the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side with a 3-0 whitewash, winning by 64, 35 and 13 runs, a rare instance of Pakistan being completely outplayed at home.
England, meanwhile, enjoyed success in 2022, taking two of three matches in the Lahore leg of their seven-game series. England’s emphatic win by 8 wickets and 67 runs overshadowed Pakistan’s narrow six-run triumph in the middle fixture.
New Zealand’s Mixed Record
New Zealand have developed a competitive record at Gaddafi Stadium, winning three out of six matches. In April 2024, they clinched back-to-back wins by identical four-run margins, showcasing composure under pressure in front of a packed Lahore crowd. Pakistan, however, have had their moments too, their 88-run win over the BlackCaps in April 2023 remains their largest T20I victory margin at the venue.
South Africa, Australia and World XI: Evenly Contested Battles
South Africa have played three T20Is in Lahore, with Pakistan winning two of them, including the deciding game in February 2021 by just four wickets.
Australia have only played once at the ground, edging Pakistan by three wickets in April 2022.
The World XI series in 2017, organised to mark the return of global cricket, saw Pakistan win two of the three matches, sealing a historic Independence Cup before a jubilant home crowd.
