Karachi, 29 October 2025:
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) on Wednesday announced the extension of their long-standing partnership, with HBL retaining title sponsorship rights for the 11th and 12th editions of the league.
PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer and HBL’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Ali Habib addressed a joint media conference at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi, to mark the renewal.
Reflecting on the league’s journey, Salman Naseer said the PSL had grown from a bold idea into Pakistan’s leading sports brand despite facing major challenges.
“When the PSL was conceptualised in 2015 and launched the following year, there were doubts about its success. International cricket wasn’t happening in Pakistan, and only a few investors and sponsors believed in us,” he said. “But those who backed us in the early years stood firm through difficult times, and today the league is stronger than ever.”
Naseer said the league had overcome hurdles such as hosting matches abroad and the COVID-19 pandemic to achieve record growth.
“Our 10th season was the most-watched PSL ever in Pakistan,” he said. “This renewal marks the end of the league’s first commercial cycle. Under the original agreement, HBL exercised its renewal rights based on an independent valuation process, resulting in a 505 per cent increase from the inaugural season’s sponsorship value.”
He thanked HBL for its consistent support and confidence in the league’s vision.
“HBL has been our partner from the very beginning. Their commitment shows how far the PSL has come in just 10 years,” Naseer said.
HBL’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Ali Habib said the bank’s association with the PSL had evolved from a sponsorship into a national partnership.
“When PSL began, people wondered if there would even be a next season. Today, it’s a source of national pride,” Habib said. “For six weeks every year, PSL becomes the heartbeat of Pakistan, from Karachi to Peshawar, every city talks about its team’s performance.”
Habib said HBL viewed the league as a platform for unity, opportunity and talent development.
“Through PSL, international cricket returned to Pakistan and players from far-flung regions got the chance to shine,” he said. “For HBL, this partnership is not just about branding, it’s about giving back to the country.”
He added that the renewal reflects HBL’s continued belief in Pakistan’s potential.
“As PSL grows, we see ourselves growing with it. We’re already thinking ahead to 2036, envisioning an even bigger and better league,” Habib said.
Responding to questions on future expansion, Salman Naseer confirmed that plans are being finalised to add two new franchises through an auction-based model.
“We’ve received strong interest from potential bidders and further details will be shared in due course,” he said. “For now, today is about celebrating our enduring partnership with HBL and the continued success of PSL.”
